Job Purpose:

The successful applicant will assume responsibility for the day to day DTP tasks, troubleshooting issues for multiple languages. The Layout Designer will be responsible for executing processes and workflows to achieve the desired level of DTP quality per client expectations. The successful applicant will also be responsible for delivering projects and responses to emails/enquiries in a timely manner. This position reports to the DTP TEAM LEAD with a dotted line relationship to the Production PM Lead in the Group Production Centre (Marketing).
Roles and Responsibilities


  • Fix layout of translated files using source language files as reference and adhering to the clients’ requirements on permitted adjustments. Layout issues may come from different source text length and data loss or corruption in translation memory tool processing, including conversion issues.
  • Verify that target language conventions are followed with numbers, currencies, date formats and other locale specific data formats. A reference table is provided for this task.
  • Make linguistic and DTP amends after DTP check or in-country review. The requested amends are delivered as notes in PDF.
  • Prepare projects for delivery by renaming files as required and arranging the in the proper folder structure and deliver files by uploading them to requested FTP location.
  • Perform QA check to other Layout Designers’ and DTP vendors’ work, including DTP check, check of adherence to project instructions and check of file names and folder structure in deliveries.
  • Careful attention to detail is required in all steps including target language layout, implementation of requested fixes and preparing project for deliver.
  • Layout Designer receives work from with DTP coordinator and/or Project Managers. Layout Designer can send project queries and report project-specific issues to DTP DRI. Layout Designer will receive coaching from DTP Lead.

Requirements
  • Degree in DTP publishing, graphic design, electronic media or relevant experience.
  • Experienced in DTP of consumer communications for global, high-end, luxury, Retail brands. Some 
global blue chip global brands are also applicable. Understanding of how to deliver quality DTP’ed 
files and its impact
  • Must have strong written and spoken English in order to compare English source files with target. Has a degree level qualification with English as a second language, or similar qualification such as 
TOEFL, Cambridge Certificate or equivalent
  • Meticulous eye for detail, and a passion for layout and presentation quality
  • Is comfortable taking direction from Lead Translators and Clients on development/ 
performance initiatives
  • Has knowledge/experience of working with translation memories/tools, and leveraging style guides
  • Comfortable designing in a Mac and PC environment
  • Understands dynamics between client and vendor
  • Must understand and work within a confidential environment and able to work with absolute 
discretion. This is very important for new country language support
  • Able to work in a fast paced, demanding creative and production environment with a multiple changes in project priorities and tight deadlines. Holistic and flexible project and time management
  • Has a flexible work ethic, and is willing to working beyond a conventional


Will be considered as a plus:
  • iOS and OS X user experience
  • Ability to create, update and execute processes and identify enabling tools
  • Ability to manage and organise a large volume of emails
  • Demonstrable experience in working as part of a virtual teams
