Yunus Social Business Albania
10.09.2012, 00:11
Yunus Social Business is recruiting for the following position, to start as soon as possible in Tirana:

Senior business consultant, Social Business Movement of Albania

The Social Business Movement of Albania (SBMA) helps incubate, support, advise and finance social business projects throughout Albania, as well as generating public enthusiasm for social business. At the request of the Albanian government, the programme is managed by us, Yunus Social Business (YSB), working hand-in-hand with the new public Agency for the Promotion of Social Business in Albania (Nxitja e Biznesit Social sh.a.).

We, YSB, are the international advisory and project implementation company for Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus, and our mission is to help create social businesses worldwide. Reporting directly to Prof. Yunus, we are currently a team of 20 people with backgrounds in strategy consulting, entrepreneurship, civil society and international development. Our main office is in Frankfurt, Germany; our country office in Albania is in Tirana. We are part of the Grameen network of over 40 social businesses and more than 50,000 employees. Grameen/Yunus projects, in microfinance and in social business, have been implemented in more than 50 countries around the world.

A social business is a new kind of organization that combines the strengths of both civil society and the business world. Social businesses have a social or environmental mission – like NGOs – but are financially self-sustainable – like businesses. Albania, like many other countries, wants to introduce new ways of encouraging social innovation and community-based solutions for social issues. Social business is one answer to this: a combination of social action with entrepreneurship and market discipline. The SBMA focuses on the needs of the poorest and most vulnerable members of Albanian society. It is helping to generate a first wave of social business entrepreneurs and social business projects, and will finance the best ones through a new Social Business Fund for Albania.

The SBMA team consists of six full-time employees of YSB, supplemented by volunteers, as follows:
• Full-time staff based in Frankfurt: Programme director; Fund manager.
• Full-time staff based in Tirana: Country director; Senior business consultant; Business consultant; Events & communications manager.
• One or two volunteers based in Tirana: International visiting consultants from associated management consulting companies and international MBA students/graduates, as well as Albanian university students.

Main responsibilities of the Senior business consultant:

The Senior business consultant is based in Tirana. Reporting to the Country Director (also based in Tirana) and the Programme director (based in Frankfurt), the Business consultant has the following duties and responsibilities:

• Manage the “pipeline” of social businesses to be assisted by the programme:
• Analyse specific social needs within Albania, especially for the most vulnerable and poorest, and including in remote rural parts of the country, and identify opportunities for social business solutions to some of these needs;
• Identify and develop relationships with potential partners for social business opportunities (meetings, interviews, field visits…): These organizations and individuals may be local or foreign companies and investors, social entrepreneurs, institutions, NGOs, or others;
• Provide business consulting and/or “incubation” services to organizations and individuals that are setting up a social business in Albania, or that are converting certain existing activities into a social business (e.g. provide advice and help with writing a coherent business plan and Excel financial statements; training, coaching…);
• Help the Country Director and Programme Director to manage, supervise and coach the business consultant as well as volunteers.
• Provide services to the Social Business Fund:
• As a continuation of the “pipeline” work, involvement in the analysis and due diligence of potential social business investees (especially qualitative and quantitative analysis of business plans, including financial modelling in Excel);
• Involvement in monitoring & evaluation of, and remedial assistance to, social businesses already in the investment portfolio.[/INDENT]
• Help in the preparation and running of workshops, the business plan competition, and other events.
• Other duties and responsibilities, as required, to help ensure that the SBMA is a success.

Candidates should have the following qualities, skills and experience:
• A university degree in economics, business administration, financial management or related fields. Higher qualifications would be considered as an advantage.
